Track ChatGPT / OpenAI Ads in Kickbite

How to track ChatGPT and OpenAI Ads in Kickbite with UTMs and map them to AI Search Paid.

Written by Juan Garzon

Kickbite does not yet have a native ChatGPT / OpenAI Ads integration. There is no kb= tracking template for these ads. Use UTMs instead, then map them to the right channel in Channel Definitions.

Paid OpenAI / ChatGPT ads

For paid OpenAI or ChatGPT ads, set these UTMs on the landing URL:

  • utm_source=openai

  • utm_medium=cpc

  • Add utm_campaign (and other UTMs) as needed for your reporting

In Kickbite, create or use the channel AI Search Paid with rules that match those UTMs (for example: source contains openai and medium contains cpc).

Organic / chatbot AI traffic

Organic or chatbot AI traffic is different from paid ads. It often arrives with a utm_source that contains chatgpt (or similar). Keep this on a separate channel from paid AI Search so paid and organic stay split.

What you will see

  • Sessions and attributed revenue once landings carry the UTMs

  • Channel performance under AI Search Paid, or whatever you name the channel

What you will not see

  • A native spend pull from OpenAI

  • A kb=ga_* style template for OpenAI Ads

If you need MER or ROAS that includes ChatGPT Ads media cost, add that spend in Extra Costs.

How to verify

  1. Click a live ad and confirm the landing URL has the UTMs.

  2. Wait for at least one complete Kickbite day.

  3. Check Marketing Performance for AI Search Paid (or your named channel).
